On May 11, 2019, Yeniçağ newspaper columnist Yavuz Selim Demirağ was attacked in front of his house in Ankara; a lawsuit has been filed into this attack two years later. The indictment demanded that six defendants face up to 20 years, 10 months in prison each for “threat”, “insult” and “armed wilful injury.”
The Ankara Criminal Judgeship of Peace released the six suspects on the grounds that “there was no life-threatening situation”. The suspects who battered the journalist with baseball bats and caused him to be hospitalized defended themselves by saying, “We had a fight in traffic, that was why we attacked.”
The hearing will be held on November 12 (June 8).
