Journalist İsmail Saymaz was summoned to give his statement after he wrote that Büreyde Öncel, who is one of the followers of Ubeydullah El Kadiri and opened an unregistered dervish convent (dargah) under the name of “Abdulkadir Geylani Wisdom and Service Association, was “on trial on charge of child abuse”. 

After Saymaz mentioned the court case filed against him for “insult” after he had written about these allegations, a 2nd court case was filed against him for “insult”. The indictment was accepted by the İstanbul 16th Criminal Court of First Instance.

At the hearing held on February 22, 2022, Saymaz was not present in the courtroom on the grounds of his health problems. Öncel’s lawyer requested an access block on the news in line with the right to be forgotten by indicating that Öncel “had been penalized only on charge of deprivation of liberty and he could not walk around freely”. The request was rejected on the grounds that “it should be requested from Criminal Judgeships of Peace.” The next hearing will be held on April 15 (February 22).

At the hearing held on April 15, 2022, the court board ruled for the acquittal of Saymaz (April 15).
