Journalist Nevşin Mengü applied to the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and filed a criminal complaint on the grounds that she was subjected to two social media accounts’ aggressive and violent remarks such as “If they attempt at a coup, Nevşin is mine” after she shared her views about the “coup rumors” on May 1. Mengü’s petition indicated that the suspects openly aimed to provoke and subjected her to gender-based discrimination. She demanded and investigation on charges of “inciting the public to hatred and enmity” and “establishing an organization to commit crimes” (June 9).
