On the grounds of her article “We don’t have a note to the government but a word: We will send you away along with your injustice” published on the Women’s supplement of the Yeni Yaşam newspaper on December 15, 2021, journalist İnci Aydın was put on trial for “marking counterterrorism officials as targets” upon the criminal complaint of Musa Çitil.

The first hearing was held at the Aydın 2nd High Criminal Court on June 6, 2021. Musa Çitil made a request to participate in the trial. Aydın’s lawyer Sercan Korkmaz, speaking at the hearing, requested that his client be exempted from hearings. The court accepted the request of Çitil for participating in the trial and that of Aydın for being exempted from hearings. The next hearing will be held on October 6 (June 6).

At the hearing held on October 6, 2022, the prosecutor’s office presented its final opinion as to the accusations and requested that Aydın be acquitted as it was understood that “the crime had been committed by another person”. Handing down its interim ruling, the court ruled that the opinion as to the accusations should be notified to Aydın’s lawyer and that a writ should be written to ensure that Aydın attend the hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). The next hearing will be held on October 25 (October 6).

At the hearing held on October 25, 2022, the prosecutor’s office presented its final opinion as to the accusations. Noting that the article cited as criminal evidence had been written by HDP MP and Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran, the office indicated that the offense charged had not been committed by Aydın. Concluding that the offense had not been committed by Aydın, the court ruled for her acquittal (October 25).
