One of the 16 journalists jailed without being indicted since June 16, journalist Ramazan Geciken, held in the Diyarbakır High Security Prison, was not given the book sent by his family.
The book “Nights of Capital Punishment in Sinop” (Sinop’ta İdam Geceleri) penned by writer Yılmaz Sezgin about the 1980 military coup period was seized by the reading commission of the prison.
The judgeship ruled that the book should not be given to the prisoner by arguing that content of the book “contained news, articles, photographs and comments disturbing the public discipline, order or security, making the rehabilitation of the convicts harder or involving obscenity” (December 28).
