Former Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP Şükrü Ayalan had an injunction issued against Cumhuriyet newspaper columnist Murat Ağırel on the grounds that “he had reported on him in his news about the pharma sector.”
The injunction issued by the İstanbul 1st Family Court as per the “Law on the Protection of Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women” read: “Journalist Murat Ağırel shall not say or do anything that would threaten the aggrieved party, Şükrü Ayalan, or insult, humiliate or degrade him; he shall not disturb Ayalan by any means of communication. If he does not abide by these rules, Murat Ağırel shall be arrested by a court order” (January 23).
