The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation against journalist Seyhan Avşar over a social media post. Referring to the killing of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin in northern Syria on 19 December, Avşar wrote: “… Will we remain silent? Will our pursuit of justice and belief in the truth change depending on where people stand or the positions they hold? Shame on us, such a shame… Yesterday, two journalists who were born and raised on these lands were killed by UAVs. We remained silent when they were killed, and the more we stayed silent, the smaller we became…” The Prosecutor’s Office announced that Avşar is under investigation on suspicion of “terrorist propaganda” and “publicly disseminating misleading information.”
