The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that an arrest warrant was issued against Cafer Mahiroğlu, the owner of Halk TV, under Article 235 of the Turkish Penal Code (“rigging of public tenders”) and Article 220 (“establishing and leading a criminal organization”).

The statement stated that the decision was based on the testimony of suspect Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who was released under judicial control on June 4 after benefiting from the “effective remorse” provision in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) investigation.

It was further noted that Mahiroğlu had left the country, and a criminal court of peace issued an arrest order. Reacting on his X account, Mahiroğlu said he was being targeted for owning Halk TV and defending democracy, and accused based on fabricated statements of a person he had never met.
