Journalist Murat Ağırel was taken into custody on 10 April 2025 around 6 a.m. on accusations of “threat” (Article 106 of the Turkish Penal Code) and “blackmail” (Article 107 of the Turkish Penal Code), following a complaint by Erkan Kork, the owner of Flash TV who is under arrest on money laundering charges. As part of the same investigation, journalist Timur Soykan was also detained. Ağırel was released the same night by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace under judicial control, with a travel ban and an obligation to sign at the police station three times a week.
