The case of journalist Murat Güreş, then editor-in-chief of Gaziantep Güncel newspaper, who was stabbed by an unidentified assailant on 13 June 2016, ended in impunity. Güreş, who had been treated at Dr. Ersin Arslan Training and Research Hospital after receiving three stab wounds to his leg, was discharged shortly after. At the time, he said he had no personal disputes and demanded that the attacker and those behind him be brought to justice. However, the Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a non-prosecution decision on 20 January 2025, citing the expiration of the statute of limitations as of 13 June 2024 and the failure to identify the perpetrators despite all efforts.
