An investigation was launched against journalist Altan Sancar on suspicion of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” (Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code) over a post he shared on his X (Twitter) account following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on 19 March. The news of the investigation was announced by Yeşu Beğtaş, his lawyer, on social media. In his post, Sancar wrote: “I have never seen or read of an era that never ends or a fortune that never turns. One way or another, what matters is where you stand.”
