The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against journalist Yılmaz Özdil on suspicion of “insulting the State” (Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code), following his social media post after the PKK decides to lay down arms, in which he stated: “The Republic of Turkey has, as of now, lost its quality of being a state.” The investigation, based on Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, concerns the allegation that Özdil’s remarks targeted and insulted the Republic of Turkey.
