While uncertainties continue in the investigation into the death of journalist and activist Hakan Tosun, who was killed after being attacked by a group in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district, it has emerged that journalists investigating the case have also been threatened. The Tosun family’s lawyer, Onur Cingil, stated that Halk TV reporter Umut Taştan was threatened by relatives of the perpetrators while reporting in the neighborhood where the murder took place.

Following the murder, Halk TV reporter Umut Taştan said in an earlier statement that a shopkeeper told him the security camera footage from the scene had not been collected by the police and that the attackers’ relatives later took the device, saying “give us the camera.” According to Taştan, the suspect’s father boasted about retrieving the footage and claimed that the attack stemmed from a pre-existing dispute.
