The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against journalist Alican Uludağ for “publicly disseminating misleading information” (Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code) after he reported that Berk Akand (convicted in the Şule Çet case) had been released. The Prosecutor’s Office stated that Akand had not been released but transferred to an open prison. Uludağ had shared a photo of Akand at a holiday resort, commenting: “He was released after approximately 7 years and 3 months. Our sentence enforcement system is such that it gives ‘courage’ to offenders.”
