Elfazi Toral, reporter for JINNEWS, and journalist Sema Korkmaz appeared before the Istanbul 25th Criminal Court of First Instance on charges of violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations (Law No. 2911). The charges stem from their detention while covering a press statement in front of the Istanbul Provincial Office of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in 2023. A rights activist is also on trial in the same case. The court postponed the trial to 14 April 2026 in order to identify Sema Korkmaz’s address and obtain her testimony.
