On January 2017, a criminal investigation was opened against Kobulan due to his social media posts containing links of news during the curfews in the eastern and southeastern provinces of Turkey in 2015 on his Facebook account. Subsequently, a lawsuit was filed against Kobulan for “repeatedly propagandizing for a terrorist organization” on 17 October 2018.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced its opinion as to the accusations and demanded that the defendant be penalized on charge of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization.”
On the last hearing held on December 26, rejecting the accusation, Kobulan requested to be acquitted.
Announcing its verdict after listening the statements of defense of attorneys Kılıç and Korkmaz, the court board ruled that journalist Yasin Kobulan shall be sentenced to 1 year, 6 months and 22 days in prison on charge of “repeatedly propagandizing for a terrorist organization” in the final hearing on March 8.
The pronouncement of the judgement has been deferred.
