A lawsuit had been filed against the teacher, Ayşe Çelik, after stating “Don’t let children die, don’t let mothers cry”, during the conflict-ridden period in city centers and raised concerns over the suffering in civilian living spaces when she called a live TV programme, the Beyaz Show at Kanal D TV channel. Çelik has been sentenced to 1 year and 3 months of imprisonment. The Bakırköy Second High Criminal Court granted a decision on April 26, 2017 that 37 people who have supported Çelik’s statement, and Kanal D TV channel director Kadir Turnalı were acquitted of the charge. Ercan İpekçi, Murat Çelikkan ve Oya Baydar were among those on trial.
