Özgür Gelecek Newspaper chief editor Aslı Ceren Aslan was taken into custody in Urfa where she wanted to follow up the latest developments in Syria and Rojava and was later arrested for “border violation” and “membership in a terrorist organisation” on February 9, 2017. She was sent to the Urfa No.2 T Type Prison.

Aslan was charged with “membership in a terrorist organization” and “propagandising for a terrorist organization”. The first hearing of the case was held on 27 November 2017 at the Sanliurfa 6 th High Criminal Court.

Aslan denied the allegations, andher lawyer said that journalist had been detained for five days, where she was subjected to ill-treatment and physical violence.

The court decided to merge the other case files against Aslan with the current case and adjourned the case to 6 February 2018.
