With its decision dated April 9, 2021, the İstanbul 10th Criminal Judgeship of Peace has imposed an access block on the news regarding the statements of Prof. Bedri Gencer from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of Yıldız Teknik University (YTÜ) Faculty of Arts and Sciences, who – following the 2020 Elazığ earthquake – attributed disasters to “the legality of adultery” and to “the ban on child marriages.” According to the Freedom of Expression Association, the Access Providers Authority has taken the related decision on the grounds that the content in question is similar to the ones blocked by the decision no. 2021/2382. The decision refers to the news published on Cumhuriyet, Halk TV and BirGün news websites (June 4).
