On 29 August 2019, the owner of YeniGün daily, which has recently closed its print version, the journalist Levent Uysal, was attacked by armed assailants. Uysal has been publishing his articles on the balikesiryenigun web-sites.
Two people were taken into custody on the grounds that they had approached and fired on a motorcycle within the scope of the investigation of the armed attack. It was learned that at least one person was arrested (26 September).
