Journalists Beritan Canözer, Mehmet Şah Oruç, Abdurrahman Gök, Mikail Barut and Remzi Akkaya were arrested by the court on charges of “illegal organization membership” on “strong suspicion of guilt” based on witness statements (April 25).
Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court accepted the indictment prepared through the investigation against Canözer for “membership in an illegal organization”. The panel conducted a detention review on the file and decided to release Canözer with a judicial control request. The release decision was based on the state of evidence in the file, the possibility of change in the nature and quality of the imputed offense, and the lack of concrete evidence of escape and evidence obscuring (June 23).
The trial started on October 25, 2023 at Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court. In his opinion, the prosecutor requested that Canözer be punished for the crime charged. The case was postponed to 8 December 2023 (25 October).
