Grant holder of Kocaeli Halk Newspaper website Faruk Bostan and chief editor of the website Bülent Karagöz reported on the allegations of rape and sexual abuse that allegedly took place in the district of Kartepe in Kocaeli province. After the news report was published, they were summoned to Kocaeli Provincial Public Security Branch Office to give a statement about the issue.
Bostan and Karagöz have been arrested by the Kocaeli 3rd Criminal Peace Court on charge of “libel” as per the Article 100/3 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK) and sent to prison (September 29).
In a decision dated October 21, 2020, the Kocaeli 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance has ruled that Kocaeli Halk Newspaper Grant Holder Faruk Bostan and Chief Editor Bülent Karagöz shall be released (October 21).
