Journalist Nazlı Ilıcak was imprisoned after the Court of Appeal approved the sentence of 2 years and 6 months given by the Istanbul 15th Criminal Court of First Instance for allegedly “slandering” the Public Prosecutor Orhan Kapıcı in an article she wrote for the website Özgür Gündem in 2016.

After the sentence was approved, Ilıcak went to Hendek Women’s Open Penal Institution with her lawyer Kemal Ertuğ Derin. However, since Ilıcak was on probation due to the sentence he received for “espionage”, he was not taken to an open prison and was transferred to Sakarya Prison No. 1 (December 5).

Nazlı Ilıcak, who was imprisoned for allegedly “slandering” the Public Prosecutor Orhan Kapıcı in an article she wrote for the website Özgür Gündem, was released on January 28 (January 28).
