Uğur Akgül was sentenced to 2 years, 6 months imprisonment for “propagandising for a terrorist organisation” due to the news that he reported during the period of curfews in 2015 and 2016. He was arrested on August 8, 2018 and sent to the Mardin Type E Closed Prison.
Akgül was released from prison on October 25, 2019 followed the publication in the Official Gazette on Thursday of the Criminal Procedure Code and the Law Amending Certain Laws, which contains regulations in line with the objectives and targets determined within the scope of Turkey’s “Judicial Reform Strategy” (24 November)
