Hakan Denizli, the Grant Holder of the Adana-based daily Egemen newspaper, was assaulted.

Hit by two bullets in his leg, Denizli stated that he had been receiving threatening calls over the last few days. Taken to hospital after the incident, Denizli had a surgical operation and was put into intensive care unit. It has been reported that Denizli will stay in intensive care for two more days to prevent any risk of infection and he might have another surgical operation. The attackers, whose physical appearance has been identified, are still sought by the police.

The assaulted journalist stated that he did not know the attackers, adding that he was receiving threatening phone calls for the last few days. Hakan Denizli has been attacked several times before.

The lawsuit where 7 suspects are being charged with the assault is continuing and the court decided to release 4 suspect who were on pre-trial detention. Next hearing will be held on 20 November (25 September)

The trial over the armed attack on Denizli will continue at the criminal court of first instance on May 27, 2021 (April 30).

At the hearing held on June 11, 2021, five people put on trial over the armed attack on Hakan Denizli were given prison sentences of 1 year, 3 months to 3 years, 9 months. The sentences of some defendants were deferred (June 11).
