On 21 September 2018, Ankara 4 Criminal Peace Judgeship decided to arrest Austrian journalist Max Zirngast due to allegations including his articles, several publications in his possession as well as with his involvement to the establishment of a political party. Journalist was released on 25 December 2018 by imposing international travel ban and judicial measure decision mandating him to visit police station every week.

The first trial was held on 11 April 2019 by Ankara 26 Heavy Criminal Court. Court gave the decision to continue international travel ban.

On the second trial held at 11 September, the court acquitted Zirngast due to lack of sufficient evidence.
