Aziz Özer, owner of Yeni Dünya İçin Çağrı newspaper, has been given a 15-month of imprisonment for “propagandising for a terrorist organisation” in 2008 due to his article entitled “Kürt Sorunu, Çözüm Arayışları ve Sorumluluğumuz” [The Kurdish Question, Search for Solutions and Our Responsibility].
On February 11, The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ruled that 15-months of imprisonment sentence given to Özer constituted a violation of his right to freedom of expression. Turkey shall pay a compensation of 2000 EURO (11 February).
