As part of the investigation initiated by the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, on November 26, journalists, writers, poets, and cartoonists, including Bilal Seçkin, Erdoğan Alayumat, Hamza Kaan, Suzan Demir, Roza Metina, Ahmet Sümbül, Mehmet Uçar, and Tuğçe Yılmaz, were taken into custody in Istanbul, Diyarbakır, Antalya, and Batman.
Bianet editor Tuğçe Yılmaz was taken into custody in Istanbul on Tuesday, November 26, and taken to Eskişehir. Yılmaz was charged with “terror propaganda,” “membership in a terrorist organization,” and “financing terrorism” for her cultural and art articles and reports written for Yeni Özgür Politika between 2017-2018. She was also questioned about why she reported for the newspaper and her relationship with the publication. Additionally, Yılmaz was asked about her interview with American philosopher Michael Hardt, published on bianet on October 15. Her social media posts were also presented as evidence of criminal activity, including those related to her own reports and posts about Şebnem Korur Fincancı, Selçuk Kozağaçlı, Aysel Tuğluk, and the Kobani trial (November 26, 2024).
Bilal Seçkin, Suzan Demir, Havin Derya, Tuğçe Yılmaz, Erdoğan Alayumat, and Serap Güneş were released under judicial control. Mehmet Uçar and Hamza Kaan were arrested (November 29, 2024).
