Middle East Technical University (METU) Rectorate declined permission for journalist Hayri Demir to speak at the invitation of the Media Society. The Media Society stated, “According to its new regulations, event approvals are now issued by the Rectorate rather than the Cultural Affairs Directorate. The basis for censorship against Hayri Demir stems from this change” (April 18).
