On the grounds that they had allegedly made manipulative statements on social media, the Banking Regulatory and Supervision Agency (BDDK) filed a criminal complaint against 26 accounts and people, including two former governors of the Central Bank, by applying to the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

As the reason for the complaint, the Agency cited the Article 64 of the Law no. 5411 on Banking which stipulates that “no real or legal person shall intentionally damage the reputation, prestige or assets of a bank or disseminate inaccurate news either using any means of communication”.

Among the ones facing the criminal complaint are Dünya Newspaper Editorial Board Chair Şeref Oğuz, Deutsche Welle Türkçe reporter Alican Uludağ, economics journalist Emin Çapa, broadcaster and economy commentator Selçuk Geçer and economist – writer Mustafa Sönmez as well as former Central Bank governors Rüşdü Saraçoğlu and Durmuş Yılmaz (December 27).
