At the last hearing of the prosecution held on 20 December 2018, İstanbul 2. Assize Criminal Court found Cumhuriyet Newspaper columnist and journalist Işıl Özgentürk guilty on “publicly degrading a section of the public on the groundd of religion” and sentenced him to 5 months of imprisonment due to his articles “Under the darkness of chador” published on 13 August 2017 and “Religion and Socialists” published on 17 August 2017. The court decided to defer the pronouncement of the judgement.
