Journalist Aslıhan Gençay is facing trial on charges of “insult” (Article 125 of the Turkish Penal Code) over her report titled “Names in Falyalı’s Tapes”, published on 24 April 2025 on P24 and later removed following an access ban order.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation after a criminal complaint filed by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin. Upon completion of the investigation, the prosecutor filed an indictment accusing Gençay of “insult through an audio, written or visual message.” The indictment lists Minister Tekin as complainant. The Ankara 78th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment and opened the trial, with the first hearing scheduled for 22 January 2026.
