TELE 1 TV reporter Engin Açar was detained while interviewing Şerif Yaşar, the head of the Art History Association, on the damage to the historic Imperial Gate in Hagia Sophia in the form of breaking off and eating parts of its 500-year-old historical door and scraping off its walls and taking along its pieces. The journalist was detained on the grounds that he was shooting with his cell phone. Açar was released after completing his statement at the police station (May 30).
