Journalist Ergin Çağlar, a reporter for the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) based in the province of Mersin, has been taken into custody in Mersin Courthouse on August 16 as there was a warrant against him as part of an investigation conducted by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.It has been reported that the investigation was launched on charge of “membership in a terrorist organisation” and a confidentiality order has been imposed on the investigation file (20 August).

Released on probation on August 20 after being detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on August 16, Mezopotamya Agency reporter Ergin Çağlar has faced a lawsuit on charge of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” (1 November)

A lawsuit has been filed against Çağlar based on this indictment and Çağlar stood trial on December 5 at the Mersin 8th Heavy Penal Court. Çağlar was acquitted of the charges of “propagandising for a terrorist organisation”. (5 December)
