Before the press statement to be held by the Dicle Fırat Journalists’ Association and Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Platform in Ankara for the 16 journalists arrested in Diyarbakır, journalists Sibel Yükler, Deniz Nazlım and Kaos GL Association’s Media and Communication Coordinator journalist Yıldız Tar were battered and taken into custody.
Taken to the Çankaya Security Directorate’s Security Department, the journalists gave their statements there. The journalists faced possible charges for “violating the Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” by “partly blocking the sidewalk”. They were released after giving their statements (July 5).
Battered and taken into custody during a press statement to be held in Ankara for their arrested colleagues, journalists Yıldız Tar, Deniz Nazlım and Sibel Yükler filed a criminal complaint against the related law enforcement officers on charges of “torture”, “insult”, “failure to report crime” and “deprivation of liberty” (November 3).

A lawsuit was filed against the journalists for “Violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations”. The indictment was accepted by Ankara 71st Criminal Court of First Instance. The trial will start on January 9, 2024 (October 1).
