The police, who did not allow the press statement to be held in front of the HEDEP Provincial building in Istanbul Beyoğlu and blockaded the building, detained Jinnews website reporter Elfazi Toral, Demokrat Modernite newspaper employee Sema Korkmaz and a HEDEP Youth Council member. In his statement, Toral shared that he attended the statement to follow the news, but although he stated that he was a journalist, he was beaten and detained by the police. Toral also stated in his statement that the police officers choked him and that he was subjected to violence both while being detained and in the detention vehicle. While Korkmaz and Aydoğdu were released after the statements, Toral was released on condition of judicial control by the judgeship to which he was referred for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911” (8-9 December).
