The 2nd High Criminal Court of Hakkari, with the decision dated 15 December 2017, sentenced Dicle News Agency’s Van Correspondent Nedim Türfent who has been arrested on May 13, 2016, to 8 years and 9 months of imprisonment for “membership in a terrorist organisation”. Türfent was convicted on the basis of the statements of 19 of 24 witnesses, one of which was hidden and three were not reached.

The case of Nedim Türfent, imprisoned in Van T-type High Security Prison, was transferred to the ECHR and the Constitutional Court (25 June 2018).

The Supreme Court of Appeals 16th Penal Chamber has approved the prison sentence given to journalist Nedim Türfent by Hakkari 2nd High Criminal Court (9 October 2019).

Having served 6.5 years behind bars, journalist Nedim Türfent was released from the Elazığ Karakoçan Type K-1 Closed Prison on November 29, 2022 as the execution of his prison sentence had been completed (November 29).
