An indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and accepted by the Bakırköy 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance has opened a case against journalist Timur Soykan under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code (publicly disseminating misleading information), seeking 1 year 6 months to 4 years 6 months in prison.

The indictment alleged that during the Halk TV program “Şule Aydın ile Kayda Geçsin” on 15 October 2024, Soykan used statements that “undermine public trust in justice and disparage judicial and state institutions through the press.”

The same case also lists journalist Barış Pehlivan as a defendant. The indictment further noted that separate proceedings were initiated for additional charges against Soykan, including “insulting the President” and “insulting judicial bodies.” Proceedings have been initiated.
