Journalist Ruşen Takva is under investigation on suspicion of “publicly disseminating misleading information” under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code, over a social media post regarding Turkey’s policy towards Kurds in Syria. The investigation was launched following a post Takva shared on X on 3 December 2024, in which he stated that Kurds in Turkey have deep emotional ties with Kurds in Syria, adding: “You cannot bomb Kurds in Syria and make peace with Kurds in Turkey.” On 11 December, Takva gave a statement to the Van Police Department, saying his post was an assessment of recent developments in the Middle East and rejecting the charges.
