Doğan Ergün, the Editor-in-Chief of İleri Haber news website, has been standing trial at the İstanbul 45th Criminal Court of First Instance on charge of “insulting the President of the Republic” on the grounds of a news report dated 2014 and containing the audio records of an alleged conversation between the then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Milliyet Newspaper’s owner Erdoğan Demirören.

At the hearing held on October 14, 2021, Ergün was sentenced to 11 months, 20 days in prison. The pronouncement of the sentence has been deferred (October 14).
