Economist and Journalist Mustafa Sönmez has been detained by Turkish police for “insulting” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on social media.

He released on Sunday after testifying to a prosecutor.

It was claimed that he was accused of insulting the President of the Republic after he shared a video of Besiktas Football Club’s fans celebrating in a bar cheering “in your honour Tayyip (Erdogan)” with beers raised.
