İstanbul 22. Assize Criminal Court rendered its verdict on January 13, 2017 on the case where human rights defenders Şanar Yurdatapan and Aydın Bodur was tried for “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” and “printing terrorist propaganda”.
The court found Yurdatapan guilty and sentenced him to 10 months of imprisonment due to “printing terrorist propaganda” which was turned over to 6000 TL judiciary fine and 1 year 3 months of imprisonment for “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”. The execution of the prison sentence was suspended. The court board have concluded the same verdict for Aydın Bodur.
Thus, the first decision of the cases filed against participants of the Solidarity Campaign of Özgür Gündem’s Editor-in-Chiefs was made.
On April 14, 2017, the Court of Appeal upheld the decision which sentenced Yurdatapan.
