Mezopotamya Agency (MA) Managing Editor Ferhat Çelik faced an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office over the news report published by the MA regarding the gendarmerie’s interruption of the Islamic memorial sermon (mawlid) preached by an imam in Kurdish; the related news report of the Agency was titled “Gendarmerie interrupted the mawlid in Kurdish: Preach in either Turkish or Arabic”.
As part of the investigation, Ferhat Çelik gave his statement as to the charged offense of “publicly provoking the public to hatred and hostility”. The prosecutor’s office has concluded the investigation and given a decision of non-prosecution (December 6).
