A lawsuit was filed against Mezopotamya Agency (MA) Managing Editor Ferhat Çelik over a news report titled “Bugs mixed with arrestees’ food in Bayburt” and published on the website of the MA.

Put on trial upon the criminal complaint of the Bayburt Type M Closed Penal Institution, journalist Ferhat Çelik was charged with “fabricating offense” as per the Article 271 of the Turkish Criminal Code (TCK) (January 14).

The indictment against Çelik was accepted on October 21, 2020.

At his first hearing on February 2, 2021, the court board ruled that Çelik should be acquitted of the offense charged (February 2).
