The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed an administrative fine on TELE 1 over the remarks of presenter Can Ataklı during the “Gün Başlıyor” (Day is Starting) program. Referring to the government’s firefighting efforts, Ataklı said, “I am saying that they are acting like fools…there is inaptitude, this is being a loser. You have ruined people, you have devastated, burned the country.” Citing these remarks, the RTÜK has fined the channel on the grounds that they “included disgracing, degrading or defamatory expressions against persons or organizations beyond the limits of criticism” (August 11).
