The investigation against former grant holder of online news portal gazetekarinca, Necla Demir turned into a lawsuit with the allegation of “insulting the President of the Republic” due to some news published in gazetekarinca. The first hearing of the case accepted by Istanbul’s Bakırköy 8th Criminal Court of First Instance will be held on May 13 (18 February).

The hearing was postponed to October 8, 2020, due to coronavirus measures.

At the hearing held on October 8, the prosecutor demanded the acquittal of Demir on the grounds that “the elements of the crime did not arise.” The next hearing will be held on October 28 (October 8).

At the hearing held on October 28, the prosecutor indicated that the elements of the offense charged against Demir did not arise and demanded the acquittal of the journalist. Handing down its judgement, the court has ruled that journalist Necla Demir shall be acquitted (October 28).
