Murat Güreş, a columnist for the local newspaper Ayıntap in Gaziantep, detained in August 2017 for two weeks is standing trial for “violating the confidentiality of an investigation”. Güreş has been arrested for publishing statements of a construction company owner who was arrested due to FETÖ investigation.

His attorneys claimed that reporting for public interest cannot be criminalized. The Gaziantep 9th Criminal Court of First Instance adjourned the trial until November 11 (20 June).

As the excuse was reported, the court adjourned the trial until 20 February (19 November).

At the last hearing held on February 20, the Gaziantep 9th High Criminal Court acquitted journalist Murat Güreş (20 February).
