Over a news report titled “The Palace has gone crazy” (Saray çıldırdı) published in Özgür Gündem on September 8, 2015, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper Hüseyin Aykol, Managing Editor Reyhan Çapan, columnist Hasan Başak and Kemal Aykut were put on trial by the İstanbul 14th High Criminal Court on charge of “insulting the President of the Republic”. The court board ruled that the execution of the warrants issued against Başak and Aykut should be awaited. The trial has been adjourned until November 3 (July 1).
