İhlas News Agency (İHA) reporter Sebahattin Yum was detained by the Iğdır Police Security Branch on 15 September 2025 following his report titled “Governor has umbrella, veterans don’t,” covering the 19 September Veterans Day ceremony in Iğdır. Yum was questioned based on a complaint filed by Iğdır Governor Ercan Turan under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code, which criminalizes “publicly disseminating misleading information.” After a medical examination, Yum was taken to the Police Directorate, where he was released following a two-hour interrogation. Shortly after his release, he was detained again by the gendarmerie to give another statement.
The report had noted that during the Veterans Day ceremony, Governor Turan stood under an umbrella while the veterans were left in the rain.
