The Anadolu Public Prosecutor’s Office concluded that there was no ground for filing a court case against Yalova University Islamic Sciences Faculty member Ebubekir Sifil, who had targeted Sözcü newspaper columnist Yılmaz Özdil and Tele 1 TV presenter Cüneyt Akman on social media. In the decision of non-prosecution, it was argued that “apart from the abstract allegations, there was no evidence showing that Sifil had committed the offense charged, except for the exercise of his right of criticism within freedom of thought”. Özdil’s attorney appealed against the decision of non-prosecution. The petition requested a lawsuit, saying, “He advocates that the dead body of our client should not be admitted into mosques and, not settling for it, he claims that the dead bodies of the people who have the same opinion should not be admitted, either” (February 19).
